Pepper May Fail But I Still Get a Guaranteed 8% CB for My Amazon eGift Card

Currently when one purchases an Amazon eGift card on Pepper they give you 4x (4%) cashback in form of Pepper coins — which can be used to redeem for more eGift cards on Pepper. If one uses an Amex Business Gold (ABG) to pay for this eGift card they get an additional 4x MR. If one values Amex MR at 1 CPP this means it is an additional 4% CB. This results in a guaranteed 8% CB.

But Pepper has lately been offering 10x boosts on many gift cards such as Amazon, Walmart, Sam’s Club, etc. (I just check daily for them by clicking the inbox icon at the bottom middle of the Pepper app home screen — I find 10AM EST to be the best time but they change them throughout the day.) This is when I buy Amazon gift cards, since between the 10x boost and the 4x MR, it results in 14% CB for me on all products I purchase at Amazon, which is insane really! (The other day I saw Amazon for 12x boost, for a total of 16% CB!)

Here is the screenshot of the Pepper inbox I am speaking of. In the following example, there is currently no Amazon eGift boost, but I see a 15x boost for Netflix for example:

The other day I saw a 10x boost on Amazon eGift cards. So I bought $100 worth and paid with my ABG. So my total CB will be 14%. However, Pepper only pays 4x upfront in Pepper coins — the base amount — and pays the other 6x in Pepper coins later — the extra bonus boost above base amount — as laid out in the pop-up conditions for the deal. Here is an example pop-up detailing the conditions for the above Netflix eGift card entry:

I’ve never bought Netflix eGift card from Pepper but I just looked it up and the base (normal) amount of cashback for Netflix is 5x. So the boosted portion is an additional 10x. So if I did buy $100 worth of Netflix gift card using the deal above, I should get back $5 of pepper coin instantly (5x) and then the remaining $10 of pepper coins (10x) on 10/1/224. (And if I paid with ABG I’d get another 4x, for 19x total.)

Anyways back to the $100 Amazon gift card I bought with the 10x boost the other day. So I instantly got $4 worth of Pepper coin credited to me and I did use my ABG for 4x MR. So I am guaranteed 8% cashback which is pretty darn amazing. I will get the other 6x back on 9/23/2024 according to the pop-up conditions I received for it, for a total of 14% CB.

So I get this 8% cashback no matter what. If Pepper does manage to stay in business until 9/23/2024 I will get another 6% CB in Pepper Coins. I keep immaculate records of all my financial transactions in the free bookkeeping software Gnucash and Pepper has so far always paid me exactly what was due, irregardless of their whacky ever changing Pepper coin valuations.

To be honest I am not worried if Pepper fails or not. I really appreciate this guaranteed 8% discount and the extra 6% will just be icing on the cake.

Summarizing. Many people are afraid to use Pepper because they don’t feel it is sustainable. I don’t feel that way for great deals like these 10x boosted Amazon gift cards. If I am getting 8% CB no matter what, it’s really risk free — I buy them for organic spending not for reselling. And each time they don’t fail I get that sweet juicy additional 6% CB!

I am going to continue to use Pepper as part of my 5%+ Customized Cashback Strategy until it dies. Not going to worry about it failing. When it does, it’s just on to the next strategy — of which there seems to be a never ending supply.

Long live Pepper! 😸

P.S. Other great boosts we use all the time, in conjunction with ABG, are like 14x back at Walmart or 14x back at Sam’s Club — we buy groceries there in addition to Aldi. See Walmart Gift Cards Work at Sam’s Club and Vice Versa.
