The Citi Shop Your Way (SYW) card along with Discover It Miles (DIM) are my top two favorite cards right now — go figure! Which I think is very cool since I am starting to become elderly and remember Sears ever since the late 1970’s. I have the classic Dawn of Discover design on the DIM card so both cards have yellows and reds in them which I think so cool — popular Earthy colors from the 70’s:
Many reading this already know the greatness of the SYW card, but the DIM card is less well known — when it comes to Discover credit cards everyone always talks about their rotating category card, the Discover It Cashback (DICB).
(I recently created both the DIM and DICB acronyms, and for good reason because we need an quick & easy way to distinguish between the two cards, especially since in many cases the DIM card is a much more powerful card than the popular DICB!)
The Discover It Miles (DIM) card, despite having the word miles in it, is a 3% unlimited cashback the first year due to the cashback matching. A great card to throw at the end of any App-O-Rama (AOR)! …
I carry the DIM card with me in my wallet and use it anywhere I can; I just obtained it a couple months ago at the tail end of my 16 Card App-O-Rama. I applied for the SYW first and the DIM last. Sears, the Alpha and the Omega! Long live Sears! A 16 card AOR wrapped in Sears goodness!
My current top dozen favorite cards — I realize I am missing some and need more cards:
- Citi Shop Your Way (SYW)
- Discover It Miles (DIM)
- Citi Double Cash (CDC)
- Synchrony Premier Mastercard (SPM)
- BofA Premium Rewards (PR)
- BofA Unlimited Cash Rewards (UCR)
- BofA Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards (BUCR)
- Chase Ink Cash (CIC)
- Citi Strata Premier
- Amex Business Gold (ABG)
- Amex Business Platinum (ABP)
- Amex Personal Gold (APG)
The BofA cards will move up higher in the list once I achieve Platinum tier Preferred Rewards status or better. If I hyperactively did the EC thingy, the ABG/ABP cards would be higher in the list. I have 26 credit cards total.
A couple cards I’d really like in the near future: Venmo & Paypal CB. If Wells Fargo wasn’t being such meanies lately, I’d totally want the Wells Fargo Active Cash (WFAC) as well. We’ll see how the US Bank Smartly card fairs over next year or so; I might be interested in that one as well once I can get $100k into a brokerage account there. It looks like both BofA and USB will each getting $100k of my money sometime in the near future.
The following is a vintage Discover card, with Sears Financial Network printed all over it.
Interesting tidbits. Sears pioneered credit card cashback with this Discover card back in the 1980’s. Also the card didn’t have an annual fee back then, which was uncommon for most credit cards at the time.
Whats special about the Synchrony?
Well it’s a 2% CB card. Currently I don’t have any Preferred Rewards tiered status with Bank of America PR/UCR cards — only getting 1.5% CB currently with them. (I do have Gold tier Preferred Rewards status on the business side of BofA but that still nets my BUCR to less than 2%.)
WF denied me as well for the Active Cash card.
