Citi Shop Your Way Card — Got My First Offer, Wow!

As I mentioned the other day, the first card I applied for in my sixteen card App-O-Rama (AOR) was the Citi Shop Your Way (SYW) card. Again, it’s a card I have been wanting a while and figured then was the opportunity to finally get it.

I received this card just two months ago and was expecting at some point I’d eventually get some stacking offers via email. Well I just got my first offer today and it blew my socks off. First off, I wasn’t expecting an offer so soon and not as good as the following:

200K SYW points for $750 online spend. This amounts to $200, since I can redeem for a $200 Visa Gift Card at 1000 points per dollar. This is amazing! $200/$750 = 26.7% ROS. Make sure to activate it immediately if you have it, before spending on the card.

Stacks with SUB. Additionally I have one month left to spend $500 to get my third and final installment of $75 for the SUB. I can spend just $750 and meet both MSR’s! $275/$750 = 36.7% ROS! Crazy right!? 😺

What counts as online spend? Their T&C seems very lenient giving us lots of easy ways to spend it. Below is a screenshot of the T&C I received at the bottom of the email.

Summarizing. I really expect to have a lot of fun with this card and glad I grabbed it in my App-O-Rama. This card is totally worth having and keep forever — another great utility card.

  1. I got the same offer, but it might be hard to meet the spend! Not sure if there are any sort of gift cards I could resell that would make the deal profitable. Might just reload my Amazon gift balance, but I would still be pre-paying expenses quite a bit.

    1. Lots of ways to MS. 🙂

And perhaps, don’t load your Amazon gift balance directly with SYW, add it to Pepper wallet instead and buy Amazon gift cards from Pepper when they are having a 8% off sale — which is like every other day. Pepper purchases with SYW should count as online purchases perhaps. Haven’t tried it yet though.

        1. Pretty sure Pepper counts as online shopping. You could try buying $1 Amazon gift card with it to see 🙂

          1. As far as I know, the only way to try is to wait and see if I get the promo in mid January…so I would need to spend the whole amount.

          2. Hey I thought you had the offer now. It expires mid January right? I think they let you know within days if a spend requirement is met with respect to SYW reward points offers?

          3. Yes, I have the offer, but I I wasn’t aware that they send you “offer fulfilled emails” after the spend is completed but before the period is up. They certainly don’t send you qualifying transaction emails for each one. I received an “in progress” email on December 20, but that was before i did any spend. I’m not sure if they will send another “in progress’ email during the promo period.

          4. I’m living dangerously. I did the whole amount for Amazon via Pepper (except the USAA insurance payment I paid previously, DPs that that works..) we shall see. Apparently the points post in a few days after meeting the spend, so that’s how you know, I guess.

  2. Apologies for comment spam; I could not find a better mechanism to contact you; Do you offer a way to subscribe via email to your own blog?

    1. Sorry I don’t but you could use RSS feeds to keep track of my blog. Or just check it like once a week or so.
